Event Spotlight: Turning a Company Party Into a Night of Mystery and Intrigue at the Boston Public Library

At The Catered Affair, we love creating an unforgettable company party! We recently worked with planner AE Events to turn their client’s cocktail reception into a Clue-inspired evening of intrigue and mystery. From the planner’s decor to a menu crafted by TCA, every aspect of this company party was inspired by the game. And what better space to celebrate in than the Boston Public Library!?

Rethinking the Company Party

QUESTION EVERYTHING…

How does a company party become truly extraordinary? Turn a theme into an experience! Encouraging guests to explore and engage with the venue and menu is key to making your event an adventure to remember.

WHERE, WHAT…

AE Events got creative with space, and for this company party, we turned the Boston Public Library into a real-life game board! Each room was designed to mirror the original Clue game, with identical floor-plans and color schemes.

The BPL dressed for a game of Clue

  • The Abbey Room was transformed into “The Billiards Room,” complete with pool tables, lounge seating, and a full bar.
  • Across the Chavannes Gallery, the Boylston Room became “The Conservatory.” Once there, guests could meet and strategize based off clues they had discovered while enjoying a performance by a Jazz trio.
  • And of course, Bates Hall was the perfect space for “The Library.” Guests indulged in a variety of food stations (and another bar!) and took a break before continuing their quest to uncover the killer!

As guests moved throughout the rooms, a number of clues and… ahem, suspicious objects were lying in wait to be discovered. No murder mystery is complete without a murder weapon, after all!

EVEN THE COMPANY YOU KEEP!

Adding even more to the experience, each of the famous characters from the game roamed the floor to interact with guests and assist in gathering clues! To honor the characters, The Catered Affair created food displays and dessert towers named after them, like Professor Plum and Colonel Mustard—designed to match their signature colors, too!
