Top Wedding Trends of 2016

2016 has been an exciting and action-packed year here at The Catered Affair. From tented wedding receptions in Newport, Rhode Island to classic ceremonies in the courtyard at the Boston Public Library, we’ve seen countless couples tie the knot in splendor. As the year comes to a close, we’re reflecting on some of the top wedding trends we’ve seen this year!

Colors of the year
We saw a lot of new and exciting trends this year. 2016 was the first year Pantone released TWO colors of the year. This year’s winners were: Rose Quartz and Serenity, the perfect blend between warm and cool. We saw a lot of this color combination this year in weddings, and we absolutely loved it!

Healthy Menu Inspiration
This year we saw a huge influx in healthy menu choices. Some of our favorites included hearty salads like our Thai quinoa salad or our seared ahi tuna on a seaweed crisp with lemon chutney hors d’oeuvres.

Metallics
From décor accents to bridesmaids’ dresses, we saw metallic take center stage in weddings throughout the year. It was especially stunning at receptions in the Boston Public Library where metallic Gold and Copper accented the hues of the classic McKim building.

Mismatched Bridesmaids
Another trend we couldn’t get enough of this year was mismatched bridesmaids dresses. Everyone has a dress color/shape that looks best on them, so kudos to the brides that allowed their bridesmaids to look their absolute best.

Food-filled Greenery
2016 was definitely the year of the foodies. Some brides love food so much that they incorporated it into their floral fixtures. Herbs and even coffee beans were seen in many bouquets and centerpieces this year, and it was delicious. We also loved the use of food walls by caters as a creative display for food stations.

Late Night Snack Indulgences
Keeping guests fueled for a long night of dancing isn’t new, but this year we’ve seen a resurgence of comfort foods! From donuts to sliders, the late-night snacks range from sweet and rich to savory and we just can’t get enough!
