Destination: Boston – Our Fantasy Wedding Weekend

Planning a destination wedding can be a challenge, especially in a place like Boston, where options for nuptials are varied and plentiful. Having planned and catered hundreds of weddings, we at The Catered Affair are more familiar than most with all of the wonderful venue options for weddings in Boston and New England, and we often plan our fantasy wedding weekends, piecing together aspects of our favorite spots!

We thought we’d share our dream wedding weekend itinerary with you. Whether you’re planning a wedding yourself or just looking to daydream, these options are the perfect way to show off the city of Boston to guests at a destination wedding. A little bit of history, a little bit of the sea and a morning after to remember combine to create a unique view of Boston that will make this a wedding to remember!

All Aboard with the Charles Riverboat Company

Inviting guests to a fabulous rehearsal dinner sets the tone for the entire wedding weekend. Make a “splash” (we had to!) with a rehearsal dinner that shows Boston from the sea by chartering one of the five classic vessels the company offers. These particular boats can accommodate up to 145 guests, and offer the perfect setting for experiencing breathtaking views of Boston Harbor or the Charles River- a perfect way to show your guests the twinkling lights of the city skyline from its best vantage point. A warm summer breeze and some cool refreshing cocktails will get everyone loosened up and chatting. Consider going traditional for your rehearsal dinner, with steamed lobsters and New England clam chowder, all served aboard luxury boat accommodations.

Boston by the Book: a Wedding at the Boston Public Library

Continue your guests’ tour of beautiful Boston with a wedding at the iconic and historic Boston Public Library. With its dramatic architectural details and central city location, the Boston Public Library provides a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience for your guests. Guests will dine at long reading tables punctuated by green-shaded reading lights and dance among the stacks. They’ll celebrate your nuptials while taking in a piece of history; the BPL was the nation’s first public library. And of course, we’ll put together the wedding of your dreams no matter what your theme or aesthetic, from literary-themed to vintage to modern.

The Morning After: Entertain at Home

Once you’ve shown your guests the best that Boston has to offer, bring them to your backyard or rent out a beautiful private home for a relaxed morning after brunch. For a summer wedding, outdoors poolside or in the gardens is the best option. Add a tent and let others do all the work: hire The Catered Affair for a seamless brunch that’s less work than entertaining at home and more personal than a restaurant or function hall. We love a buffet to allow your guests the opportunity to come and go as they please. Elevate the morning after with Eggs Benedict to order on crispy potato cakes, Maine crab cakes or traditional English muffins and include souffles, pancakes, coffee cakes and all the fixings. Send guests away with full bellies and warm memories of a wonderful wedding weekend.
